DDL resources

The Language Dynamics Laboratory has three experimental rooms for the collection of behavioural, electrophysiological and kinematic data for the study of the perception and production of speech in adults and children. In addition to these three experimental rooms, the DDL laboratory has specific mobile equipment for recording oral or written linguistic data in the field.

BEHAVIOURAL TESTING ROOM

This room is equipped with 8 boxes and thus allows the simultaneous acquisition of behavioural data from 8 participants.
Equipment :
  • 8 computers
  • 8 Headphones (Beyerdynamique DT 770 PRO)
  • 8 control levers
Specific software :
  • OpenSesame
  • Praat

Anechoic electroencephalogram room

This room, shared with the MSH Lyon - Saint-Étienne, also serves as a video studio*. It is used by the DDL laboratory to conduct electroencephalography (EEG) experiments and audio recordings in adult participants. It is divided into two parts: a "control room/experimenter" which allows the experiments to be controlled and an "experimentation" area in which the subject is installed. These two parts communicate via an intercom system.

Equipment :
  • Microphones (audio-technica 2020 USB et SE Electronics **)
  • Headphones (Beyerdynamique DT 770 PRO)
  • Biosemi EEG acquisition system with 32/64 channels + 8 exogenous channels
  • Electronica 600 M computer-controlled audiometer
  • Mixer (Mackie 1604VLZ4 16 Channel 4-Bus)
  • Control levers
  • Touchpad
Specific software :
  • Biosemi
  • Presentation® - Neurobehavioral software
  • Praat
  • Audacity
  • ROCme!

* For video recordings, contact Christian Dury at the Animated Images Cluster of the MSH Lyon Saint-Étienne: christian.dury@msh-lse.fr

OPTOTRAK ROOM

This room allows measurements in kinematics of movement, as well as electroencephalography, to be carried out on adults and children from the age of 8 months.

Equipment:
  • Optotrak Certus (NDI)
  • Biosemi EEG acquisition system with 32/64 channels + 8 exogenous channels
Specific software :
  • Matlab (Toolbox OAPI)
  • Kinematic acquisition and visualization software (NDI First Principles & Data View)
  • OpenSesame
  • Presentation® - Neurobehavioral software
  • Biosemi
